Parents Inc. believe that improving parenting skills is the key to improving the way families function and the way young people gain support and guidance from the people around them.

Donations from the PICT in 2008 were used by Parents Inc. for the Attitude programmes. Attitude ‘Programmes for your Head’ help to build mental and emotional resilience in New Zealand’s young people. Attitude has been endorsed by teachers, principals and health professionals, and is now the largest external provider of high school health education nationwide.

The programme is presented to over 170,000 students each year. Funding from the PICT in 2009 will continue to be directed to Attitude.

ABOUT ATTITUDE PRGRAMMES FOR SCHOOLS

Attitude
is the youth division of Parents Inc. and provides presentations and resources to secondary schools. These programmes cover the five strands of the health curriculum and work in conjunction with health teachers and their own programmes.

The Attitude programmes are designed to give young people the tools to construct meaningful lives. They have been designed to encourage mental and emotional resilience and to help teenagers make choices that will avoid them sabotaging their future.

Attitude addresses the root issues behind teenage violence, suicide and hopelessness. The presenters are skilled in engaging teenagers' attention, using humour, multimedia and interaction to create an atmosphere where young people are keen to both discuss their ideas and to evaluate new ones. The presentations can stand alone or can act as an introduction for a teacher's own modules.
The support and excitement associated with these programmes has been outstanding. Attitude is now delivering programmes in over 85%
of New Zealand High Schools.

Attitude presentations and booklets conform to the guidelines of the Health and Physical Education Curriculum. They tend to receive unequivocally enthusiastic response from students, parents and teachers around the country.

Attitude has an interactive web-site as an on-going resource for young people, reinforcing and augmenting the information in the Attitude programmes.
