The Foundation for Youth Development (FYD) proactively works within communities to turn this around. They manage proven programmes that help build self-esteem, promote good values and give life direction for children and young people aged 5 to 18 years.
Founded in 1995 as the Project K Trust by mountaineer, Graeme Dingle and lawyer Jo-anne Wilkinson, FYD has grown into a leader in the field of youth development.
FYD’s programmes – Kiwi Can, Stars, Project K and MYND – help young people discover possibility, creating a youth population with a positive outlook and eyes open to the future.
FYD’s programmes:
Kiwi Can …
... is a life skills and values programme delivered to primary school students (5 – 12 years) throughout a school, once a week, every week of the school year. The programme challenges and develops children to increase their confidence, mental awareness, creativity and understanding of values and life skills.
Stars …
... supports Year 9 students (12 – 13 years) to make a safe and positive leap into high school. Stars also provides important leadership opportunities for Year 12 and 13 students who are trained to be Peer Mentors. There are five key stages; a week-long Adventure Camp, Community Project, Community Adventure, Careers Expo and Peer Mentoring with seniors.
Project K
... is a 14-month programme for selected Year 10 students identified as lacking self-confidence or with other factors holding their development back. Project K is designed to inspire 13 – 15 year olds to reach their full potential through building self-confidence, teaching essential life skills such as goal setting and team work, promoting good health and a positive attitude.
Project K is run in three key phases: a three week Wilderness Adventure, a 10 day Community Challenge and a year-long mentoring partnership with a trained and screened adult volunteer.
